They say you shouldn’t dress for the job you have, but the job you want. And a recent move for Hoosier Security has them swimming in space – but primed for the next step in their evolution as a company.
New Digs on Mass Ave
“Our plan has always been to build a model shop and then expand into other locations – and this home office can now support up to 7 other locations,” says owner Armando Perez. “We’re ecstatic we got to do it here.”
“Here” is the near east side of the Mass Ave industrial corridor in a new section of the Circle City Industrial Complex.
Logistically at the center of Indianapolis, CCIC is close to the downtown area with access to all its resources, but far enough away to avoid getting mired in traffic. With quick access to the I-70 and I-65 arteries, Hoosier Security technicians can get to any location quickly – especially important when there’s a 1-day fix guarantee.
While many locations in town could provide these same attributes, Perez has personal ties to the cottage home neighborhood, having grown up near the area. And with a contingency of small manufacturers and artists in the complex, he sees the CCIC as a place where the streams of art and science cross.
“Even though we’re not artists or manufacturers, we appreciate the elevation of craftsmanship to an art form,” he says. “And a lot of our value is in design and customization.”
A Design Tool for Tailoring Solutions
For Perez, good design is crucial to success in the implementation of a system, and the new space reflects that philosophy. A design studio in front of the office serves as a build area to test camera placement, bandwidth calculations, storage, infrastructure, and even a little cyber security.
The build room is literally a transparent work area with glass door and 2 windows facing into it. It’s equipped to program up to 250 cameras simultaneously and can run 5 recorders, with each connecting up to 256 cameras. It also allows for programming a dozen door controllers and 5 to 6 alarm systems simultaneously.
“There’s great value for the client in our ability to pre-program and configure a system,” says Perez. “The whole system can be staged and tested for 24 hours before we ever hit the job site – and we’ll know if we have any hardware failures, out-of-date software or configuration problems.”
Seeing is Believing
This kind of efficiency dovetails with an unprecedented ability to “show, don’t tell.” With this state-of-the-art testing area, Hoosier Security technicians can compare different recorders and how they are used. According to Perez, the most common failure point is not choosing the proper recorder.
“People can talk about what they need, but until you actually see how it works, you can’t appreciate what it really means,” he says. “We design the right solution based on the concerns a client has – not on fear, not on a salesperson’s perception of their needs.”
