Want Energy Savings in Addition to Security?

Hoosier Security can make it happen

Hoosier Security prides itself on the custom design of all its security solutions. Our technicians are expertly trained and certified and know how to engineer a system above and beyond the initial specification capabilities. That’s what you should expect from a professional systems solution provider – and what you get from Hoosier Security.

When it comes to access control, the way to electronically protect entrances or other egress parts of the protected premises, and even doors throughout your facility, we can provide a full range of technologies, again, specified only after an in-depth interview and thorough site survey. That’s only the beginning. Did you know that access control can also help provide substantial energy savings? Used with motion detectors and occupancy sensors, we can engineer the kind of specification that will allow you to automatically set HVAC temperatures up or down, depending on occupancy, and resulting in hundreds of dollars or more savings on utility bills each year. Lighting control is another area. Used in tandem with access control, we can engineer lights to turn off or on based on motion of individuals in the area, or lack thereof, to save on lighting costs.

What are occupancy sensors?

An occupancy sensor is a lighting control device that detects occupancy of a space by people and turns the lights on or off automatically, using passive infrared, ultrasonic or microwave technology. Occupancy sensors are typically used to save energy, provide automatic control and comply with building codes. They are also used to detect when a space is vacant, thereby triggering systems to lower temperatures, dim lights, or shut HVAC and lighting completely down.

A motion detector is a similar device that detects moving objects, particularly people. A motion detector is often integrated as a component of a system that automatically performs a task or alerts a user of motion in an area. Motion detectors are a critical component of security, automated lighting control, home control and overall energy efficiency.

Let’s say an employee is working beyond normal operations or weekends. Once the credentialed employee enters the facility the access control system may be preprogrammed to a new schedule that initiates HVAC and lighting. Or, an occupancy sensor detects movement and then initiates the HVAC system to turn the temperature up with regards to heating, or start the air conditioning system cooling. Once the employee leaves the building, either with initiation from the occupancy sensor, motion detector or the access control system when they ‘clock out,’ the temperature will reset to the lower, unoccupied temperature thresholds. The same type of scenario can apply to facility lighting, initiating lights to turn on or off based on the presence of an individual or the access control entrance credentialing initiation.

As experts in professional security specifications, there’s really nothing we can’t do to make your business more secure, safe and energy efficient. Let’s start a discussion today so you can begin to realize these cost-savings.
